Bob Charles is one of Texas’s premier singer-songwriters and a hidden treasure among guitarists. Rooted in Rock, Jazz, and Blues, Bob’s music is a soulful blend of 70s-era jam bands, trio jazz, Americana, and Texas Blues. His unique sound features rich, beautiful chords infused with South Texas grit, showcasing his deep understanding of harmony and a style that rewards listeners with new discoveries at every turn.
An electric, acoustic, and slide guitarist, Bob’s playing is as diverse as it is distinctive. His soulful, southern-inflected vocals bring a poignant touch to his music, seamlessly fusing his songwriting and guitar work into a deeply engaging and memorable experience.
Bob has released two albums: Blue Sky Black and his latest, Village of Fools, which showcase his unique ability to weave poignant songwriting with masterful musicianship. He currently performs with the Bob Charles Band, a trio based in South Texas, delivering compelling live performances that highlight his versatility and creativity.
Throughout his career, Bob has shared the stage with iconic artists including Eric Johnson, Stanley Clarke, Steve Morse, Willie Nelson, Stephen Stills, Carmen McRae, Ruthie Foster, Lenny White, Dave Brubeck, and David Benoit. His talents have also been featured at drum clinics alongside world-class drummers such as, JR Robinson, Herman Matthews, Russ Miller, Greg Bissonette, Danny Seraphine from the rock group Chicago, and bassist Victor Wooten.
A respected educator, Bob served on the staff at the prestigious Southwest Guitar Conservatory in Texas. His studies with guitar legends Pat Martino, Herb Ellis, Jackie King, and Barney Kessell have shaped his exceptional technique and deep understanding of music.
Bob’s songwriting prowess has also been recognized on a national level, winning a Billboard Songwriting Award for his instrumental piece, “Touch And Go.”
